Fight aging with spice
A recent study caught my eye and if you are someone invested in the health of your skin, I think you might find it interesting too!
"Inhibition of Advanced Glycation End-Product Formation by High Antioxidant-Leveled Spices Commonly Used in European Cuisine"
Starowicz, Zieliński, 2019
".....Spices and herbs, as good sources of polyphenols, could be strong inhibitors of advanced glycation end-product (AGE) formation....Our research showed the high antiglycation ability of cinnamon, cloves, and allspice, and we suggest, for the first time, that anise could also be considered a good glycation inhibitor."
Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) are natural compounds formed in food and the body. The accumulation of AGEs have been associated with conditions of accelerated aging like Alzheimer’s, atherosclerosis, diabetes, kidney disease and chronic heart failure.
AGEs also play a role in skin health. Their accumulation can destroy fibre contracture in the dermis and change the balance between the synthesis and degradation of the extracellular matrix and ultimately leading to impaired skin homeostasis....this is argued to contribute to wrinkles + premature aging of the skin.
While lotions potions and who knows whats else might be marketed to you to fight aging - why not use nutritional therapy to reduce glycation?
Here are the top 5 spices to inhibit AGE formation:
allspice
star anise
cloves
cinnamon
oregano
One of my favourite ways ti incorporate these spices in chair, check out my recipe on my instagram.
